Tuesday, November 26

Tuesday is the new Friday!  At least this week.

I had two very weird interactions with students today.  Only one was not my fault.  The other…well, I didn't mean to put my foot in my mouth.

First Weird Interaction:  I was standing outside my classroom door, greeting students, when a past student of mine walked up and said, "Here."  Now, when I taught preschool, I knew better than to put my hand out there to take whatever a student was offering me.  I never knew if it would be a booger, used gum, a bloody tooth, or a dead bug.  I've gotten lax since I've been teaching high schoolers, apparently.  So I (stupidly) held out my hand.  Said former student, who is male by the way, put an unused, unopened tampon in my hand and then tried to walk away.  But I stopped him.  I was very confused at this point.  "Why?" I asked.  "Are you trying to tell me something?"  That caught him off-guard!  He just smirked and said he'd found it on the ground and walked away.  Weird, right?  When I was in high school, I was too embarrassed to be even seen having a tampon in my purse, and I wouldn't have been brazen enough to give one to one of my teachers--even as a female!

Second Weird Interaction, also known as how far could I shove my foot in my mouth?:  The students today were acting like it was a Friday, which means trying to get me flustered and/or angry.  First, a student asked me what happens when a person dies.  I was able to dodge that curveball.  Then, a student asked me "What's a prostitute?"  He had that smart-aleck gleam in his eye, the one every great class clown gets when they think they've one-upped the teacher.  Wanting to avoid that bomb as well, I said, "Go ask your momma."  I meant it in the, "Go ask your parents about the birds and the bees, 'cause that ain't my job, sugar" kind of way, but to the students it sounded like I just called his momma a prostitute.  Great.  They burst out laughing, the kid started laughing too, but his eyes got really big.  I was flummoxed.  Crap.  So I back-pedaled, saying they all knew what I meant and that I did not mean it that way.  The kid said he knew that, but that it was still funny.  I prayed long and hard that he would not go home and tell his mom I called her a whore in class or anything.  You never know, right??

Monday, November 25

I've been bad lately about not posting my outfits the day of; hopefully after Thanksgiving this will get better.  My student teacher only has one more week left, which means I've taken back my classroom.  And while I'm super excited to have it back (it's been a really long semester), it also means I have less time to myself.

We only have Monday and Tuesday to work and then we are off the rest of the week for break.  And thank goodness.

Dotted top: JcPenney (I think-it's really old)
Striped Sweater: Kohl's
Black Pants: Given to me by a friend, so I have no idea
Black Booties: Ariat

Sunday, November 24

BRRR!  It's really cold here!

Thank goodness I have to stay inside.  Too bad it's because I have quite a bit of grading to finish today. Hoping it flies right on by.

I played around with prints today.  It's not my most favorite outfit ever, but it turned out okay.

Top: Express
Skirt: Kohl's
Cardigan: Gap
Fleece-Lined Tights: Bought these last year in NYC; I don't remember the store name
Booties: Kohl's
Necklace: J.Crew Outlet

For those of you who notice those types of things: look how I cleaned up the room!  No more toy stuffing from the dogs!  No more clothing from where I was unpacking from my trip to Las Vegas!

Saturday, November 23

I spent the day cleaning, organizing, and grading.  Sounds like a typical teacher Saturday, huh?  :)  I was pretty proud of myself because I even got out the gloves and scrubbed toilets and whatnot.  I'm a regular Cinderella!

I have been avoiding wearing pants lately.  And before everyone thinks I've been walking around without anything covering my bum, I mean pants in the traditional sense of jeans or slacks.  I've been falling in love with wearing leggings instead.  I have always been more of a dresses and skirts girl because, with my curves, they just look better on me.  It is a pain to find pants that fit me right AND look good.  Leggings, though, because they hug my curves, fit nicely, don't give me a muffin top, and are WAY more comfy to wear.

I used to be very against wearing leggings.  I was one of those people who went around saying, "LEGGINGS ARE NOT PANTS!"  But I have now revised my beliefs.  Leggings, in my humble opinion, can be worn as pants if they meet a few requirements: 1) They must fit correctly.  That means not too loose so that you look sloppy and not so tight that I see too much in the front or the back.  No one likes wedgies, honey.  2) The top must either be flowy or at least long enough.  No cut off tops, please.  The more tunic-like the better.

Here's my hanging-around-the-house outfit.  I did wear leggings.  It was awesome.

Friday, November 22

Ah, the end to another week.  This semester really has gone by so fast.  I feel like I blinked and it went from Halloween to (nearly) Thanksgiving.

I won't lie; this year has been hard.  It's my fifth year, so I'm up for tenure.  My boss has added a few extra expectations on me: I'm in charge of RTI and PBIS at my school.  On top of that, I have a student teacher.  I'm thankful for all of the experiences, but I feel like these things make me a crazy person.  I'd like to focus on the job I was hired to do and then fit in the extra duties as I have time, but that's not how a school works.

I ended up buttoning the jacket because I felt like the dress was a little low on top for teaching high school boys.  I always like to take extra precautions with those kinds of things!

Dress: Kohl's
Jacket: Maurice's
Tights (Fleece Lined!): Sam's Club
Necklace: Wet Seal
Boots: Payless

Thursday, November 21

Gah, I am still not caught up on my sleep!  And to top it off, I'm behind on my grading.  I hate being behind on my grading.  Hopefully I can catch up this weekend!

Wednesday, November 20

I had a long day.  I went to bed early Wednesday and didn't even post.  Sorry my outfit isn't exciting at all.  My students complimented me on it, so I guess it was okay anyway.

Wednesday, November 13

Weird day today.  The good news is I don't have to cook because I was invited by a student organization to "Turkey for Teachers," where they feed us this big Thanksgiving dinner.  The students choose which teachers to invite, so it's an honor to get to go!

Also, tomorrow I leave for Las Vegas.  Yay for fun trips!

Dress: Kohl's
Cardigan: Maurice's
Tights: Walmart
Boots: Payless

Tuesday, November 12

Sorry for not posting yesterday.  I had to stay late to talk with my student teacher.  Then, I was asked to attend the school board meeting--for a good thing; I was awarded a grant for my classroom!  Then I met some of the hubby's family for dinner.

Dress: gift from my mom
Cardigan: Gap
Monogram Necklace: gift from a friend
Brown Bracelet and Mint Bracelet: Target

I got a lot of compliments on my dress today.  :)

Monday, November 11

I love my students!  Some days they just crack me up.  For instance, today I had a student say that people owned slaves in the 1930's.  I had to correct this child very quickly.  Poor kids: anything more than ten years ago must all be lumped together into "The Very Distant Past" for them!

Red Top: LOFT
Plaid Top: Old Navy
Black Pants: Marshall's
Black Fringe Boots: Kohl's
Bird Necklace: Target
Monogram Necklace: Altar'd State

Sunday, November 10

I wanted to wear these gold tights today.  Then I found a dress that I haven't worn in a while.  It even had some yellow in it too!

Yellow Rose Dress: Kohl's
Black Belt: JcPenney
Gold Tights: Walmart
Black Boots: Payless
Necklace: Irish Fest in KC
Monogram Bracelet: Altar'd State

I had a former student run up to me and give me a giant hug today.  I love those moments!  I am also feeling good about getting some Christmas shopping done.  I want to do it early before the crazy people come out!

Saturday, November 9

I went with a friend to Amish Country on Saturday.  We had fun driving around, getting lost, and looking at some homemade items.

Burgundy Stripe Shirt: Banana Republic
Jeans: Se7en from Lane Bryant
White Bubble Necklace: Kohl's
Monogram Bracelet: Altar'd State
Brown Boots: Lane Bryant

I also did some packing for my trip to Las Vegas.  I leave Thursday night!

Friday, November 8

There are two outfits posted for Friday.  I have my work-day outfit.  After being pied in the face during an assembly, I had to go home, shower, and subsequently change before heading out to dinner.

The pie in the face thing was a fundraiser for United Way; the teachers with the most change in their buckets "won."  At first, I had NO money in my bucket.  The kids said I was too nice to get a pie in the face.  Then another teacher put $5 in my bucket.  :P

I had a completely different outfit picked out for today, but I just wasn't feeling it.  It took ten different outfit changes until I finally decided on this.

Lace Tank: Altar'd State
Dotted Chambray: Kohl's
Dark Gray Maxi Skirt: Forever 21
Grey Loafers: Aerosoles

I didn't wear any accessories with this work outfit.  I just felt like going simple today.  It was a good call because I can't imagine trying to get whipped cream out of a necklace.

This next outfit is what I wore out to dinner with friends.  I took a pic with and without my pleather jacket.

Pleather Jacket: Guess
Aztec Scarf: Forever 21
Cream Sweater: JcPenney (I think)
Black Leggings: Kohl's
Animal Print Flats: Target

Sorry for the fuzzy picture.  I didn't want to be late for dinner and I was in a hurry.

Thursday, November 7

Whew, it was a long day!  I just got home.  I had to get my oil changed 'in town,' which is thirty minutes away.  It took them over TWO HOURS to change my oil.  I'm pretty sure I could have gone on the internet, figured out how to change the oil, and done it myself in that amount of time!  The nice thing was that they didn't charge me at that point since I had to wait so long.

I did some pattern mixing today.  I took a close-up picture so you could see better.

I love the little birds on this scarf.  It reminds me of Tris in Divergent--her tattoo is of birds in flight.

Pink Top: LOFT
Army Jacket: Maurice's
Bird Scarf: Rue21
Frilly Skirt: Kohl's
Gray Tights: Walmart
Black Booties: Ariat

I liked the pink and black frills juxtaposed by the army jacket and booties.  And I was comfortable all day, which makes such a big difference when you are teaching.

Wednesday, November 6

Another day at work.  My students took a test today, so at least I could get a few other things done.  I'm supposed to be able to work on other things right now because my student teacher is supposed to have taken over the class.  She is finding every conceivable reason not to do so though.  I've become frustrated with the whole situation, which is easy to tell if you follow my posts.  Just one more month though, and then I can have my classroom back to myself!

Yellow Top: Target (super old)
Green/Teal Cardigan: Charlotte Russe
Printed Stripe Skirt: Kohl's
Coral Necklace: Target
Grey Flats: TOMS

I was very colorful today.  Because I wasn't in a very good mood, I tried to make my outfit colorful to counter it.  I don't think it worked.  Plus, I felt uncomfortable all day--it was just too many different colors for me to feel comfortable.  I don't know why--it doesn't even make sense.  Also, I tucked the shirt in because it looked stupid untucked, but then that led to a whole new series of issues.  For one, it kept gathering (as seen in the photo); the top kept creeping up and bunching as well.

Tuesday, November 5

It's been a busy week.  Sorry for not posting.  I've been teaching all week as my student teacher was gone Tuesday and came back on Wednesday but was "too sick to teach" whatever that means.  I don't know about you guys, but I can't use that excuse.  I have to suck it up and do it anyway.

Blue Dress: Altar'd State
Gray Cardigan: Dillard's
Gray Tights: Kohl's
Suede Boots: Born from Dillard's

I've styled this dress a few different ways since I've bought it, and I think that this way might be my favorite so far.  It's simple, but I like it.

Monday, November 4

My student teacher left halfway through the day.  She claims she was sick.  She told someone else she was tired and didn't get enough sleep.  Anyway...

That left me trying to scramble to teach today.  Thank goodness I'm a teacher and am able to be flexible and think on my toes.  Especially since she just texted me and told me she's going to be out tomorrow too.

At least my students are happy to have me back teaching.  They were so excited when I told them I would be teaching them today.  Nothing like a good ego boost with that!

Black Top: H&M
Emerald Pants: Express
Leaf Necklace: KC Irish Fest
Shoes: Aerosoles

I wanted some looser fitting tees for women--not big boxy ones, but ones that didn't hug my fat rolls like the ones at Target do.  I found the PERFECT ones at H&M.  I was so excited!!

Sunday, November 3

The power keeps going out around here.  I'm going to make this short and sweet so that I can have it posted before it goes out again!

Top: LOFT
Cardigan: Charlotte Russe
Skirt: Forever 21
Necklace: LOFT
Ballet Flats: Vince Camuto from Dillard's

I found this skirt when I went shopping in Kansas City this weekend.  I got it for less than eight bucks, can you believe it?!?  I was so excited!  I've been wanting a dark gray maxi skirt, but couldn't find one that either fit right or was cheap enough for me to want to buy.

Saturday, November 2

So thankful for a weekend!  I know I was gone for two days for a conference, but still I was ready for a break.  I've had a terrible head cold and now it just does not seem to want to go away.

Ignore the mess in the background.  My dogs were excited to be home and have been taking their toys and strewing them all over the house!

Top: NY and Co
Scarf: Mustard Seed
Jeans: Se7en from Lane Bryant
Boots: Payless
Bracelet: Target

Hopefully this outfit gets me through a fun afternoon trip to the city, which is 2 1/2 hours away.  :)

Friday, November 1

It's already November.  GAH!

Sweater: Old Navy
Jeans: Se7en from Lane Bryant
Flats: Target
Necklace: $2 from EBay!

I really LOVED this necklace.  Just realized as I am posting this, that I got it broken though.  UGH.
Oh well.  I still really like it.  I'll just have to break it on the other side now to make it look even.
I think it looks like a phoenix.  What do you think?

Thursday, October 31

I came home and crashed--I'm still getting over this cold.  I didn't have any trick-or-treaters at all.  I was kinda sad about it, but maybe they heard I was passing out glow bracelets instead of candy...

Jack-O-Lantern Top: Target
Blazer: JcPenney
Skirt: Marshall's
Tights: Sam's Club (fleece lined!)
Booties: Ariat
