Thursday July 18

I was at a loss for what to wear this morning.  Not because I had "nothing to wear" but because there are so many options in my closet right now, I didn't know where to start to put together an outfit.  That's when I got on the internet to check out some of my favorite fashion blogs to see if that would give me an idea.  And it did!

I got this outfit inspiration from Audrey at Putting Me Together.  She had on a bright pink dress with blue jewelry and neutral shoes.  I do not own a neon pink dress, but I do have a fuschia one.  And I do not have any blue jewelry (yet), but I do own mint green items.  And I had a pair of neutral flats.  I love it when I don't really have to think to put together an outfit!

Dress: Banana Republic
Belt: Dana Buchman (I think it came off a pair of jeans I bought)
Flats: Vince Camuto from Dillard's
Necklace: Wet Seal
Bracelet: Target

Please don't compare my outfit next to Audrey's.  She's way cuter than I am!

I love the sleeves on this dress, but I still feel weird every time I put it on because it sits low on the hips, which is definitely not a part of the body I want/need to emphasize.  Plus, as all summer dresses, this one feels a bit short.  So if I were going to wear it to work, I'd have to pair it with a cute pair of tights.

Wednesday July 17

I needed an outfit today that would go from a meeting to working from home on the computer, to having a family member over for dinner.  I'd had this shirt and cardigan combo in my head for a while, and today I pulled it out.  But what to wear on the bottom?  I chose the black maxi as pictured, but after looking at the photos, I decided that, even though the maxi skirt is cute and comfy, it did not look right with the rest of the outfit.  So I changed into cropped jeans instead.  I liked that look much better.

What is it about maxi skirts?  They are like a girly-er/more acceptable form of sweatpants, I guess.  But they definitely looked as ugly as sweatpants with the top I'm wearing today!  That's a note to self.

I look so dowdy in this combination! It's a surprise the husband didn't say anything!  But who am I kidding?  The husband was probably excited that my outfit looked like it matched today.

Sandals: Merona from Target
Top: very old and the tag has worn out, so I'm not sure.  I think it could be I Heart Ronson from JcPenney.
Cardigan: Charlotte Russe
Black Maxi: Marshall's

This looks so much better with jeans!
Cropped Jeans: Rockstar from Old Navy

Tuesday July 16

Yesterday I was not feeling well at all.  I couldn't hardly move.  Thank goodness today I feel so much better!

I don't have any plans for today, but I decided to pull out this dress I haven't worn in over a year.  I bought it at a little boutique in Oklahoma that has since gone out of business.  I loved the rose pattern and the grey and white just seemed so classic.  It originally came with a little pink ribbon, but I have a couple of different colors I switch out so I can change the look.  It is hard to tell in the photo, but the dress has cap sleeves and almost a sweetheart neckline.  It drapes so well.  I paired it with the white sandals to dress it down a little.  You could definitely dress this up by turning the ribbon the other way and wearing heels.

Notice how, on the left and in the middle, I wasn't wearing a tank top, but on the right I have one on.  When I first put it on, the cleavage showing wasn't bothering me.  It's summer after all!  But it only took a few moments for me to feel a little uncomfortable.  And I don't do uncomfortable.  So I grabbed a matching yellow tank to put on underneath.  Much better!  It does change the look to be much more dressed down.

Dress: To The Nines
Bubble Necklace: Kohl's

Sunday

Here's what I wore to church.  It was so comfortable I wore it the rest of the day.  Hubby and I went to a drive-in movie in the evening.  I had never been to one!

Saturday Shopping

Saturdays I try to hit up the farmer's market and run errands in town.  I wanted something comfortable that I could walk around in.  I have had this dress for at least three years now, but I haven't worn it in a long time.  I think maybe because it's a sundress so it's a little short.  It's not something I would wear to school unless I put some leggings underneath it and a tank top for extra coverage (like I did today).

Dress: JCPenney
Cardigan: Sonoma from Kohl's
Tank: Charlotte Russe
Belt: from some little shop in NYC that I can't remember
Flip Flops: Cato Fashion
Bracelet: Target

Anyone have a good strategy for making shorter dresses work for work?

Staycation Style

This week has been busy even though we decided not to travel for vacation.  We've gone to the pool, tried mini-golfing, gone to the movies, and visited our old college campus.  It's been great!

Here are the outfits I wore this week:

Monday: Pool Day
Because I first had a doctor's appointment and then we were going to go swimming without a chance to go home first, I had to dress for both.  Thus the dress and flip flops combo.

Dress: Target (many years ago)
Flip Flops: American Eagle brand from Payless
Blue Shrug: JCPenney
"Bracelet": actually a headband from Charlotte Russe

Tuesday: Movie Night
I had to make a semi-good impression today, as I was meeting my student teacher for the first time.  Also, we were going to a movie that night so I needed something that could keep me warm in the cold theater.  I get cold so easily!

Jean Jacket: Old Navy
Maxi Dress: Marshall's
Espadrille Wedges: Sonoma (from Kohl's)

Wednesday: Mini Golfing and Ice Cream
Hubby and I went out of town to try out mini-golfing--it was pretty cheap and they let us play unlimited number of games while we were there!  Too bad I got frustrated halfway through the first game and completely gave up after the first few holes of the second game!  I am such a sore loser.

Without Shrug
Shrug: Charlotte Russe
Tank: Apt 9 from Kohl's
Black Crops: Worthington from JCPenney
Espadrilles: Target

Thursday: Zoo
It takes three hours for us to just drive to the zoo, so I wanted a comfy outfit not only for walking around all day, but one I could stand to wear for such a long car ride.  Enter the maxi skirt.  Seriously like wearing PJs without getting called out for wearing PJs.  I was going to wear my Sperry's with it but decided to wear my silver flip flops instead.

Blue and White Tank: Faded Glory from Walmart
Black Maxi Skirt: Marshall's
Black Bracelet: Target
Cross Necklace: Wet Seal
Sperry's: from Dillard's
Flip Flops: from Cato Fashion

Friday: Visiting Truman
We drove to our college campus today.  Hubby hadn't visited in quite a few years.  Too bad most of the buildings were closed down for the summer.  I wore yet another maxi skirt today.  Like I said, they are just way too comfortable!

Striped Tank: Gap Outlet
White Camp Shirt: Kohl's
Maxi Skirt: Kohl's
Pink Gold Bracelet: freebie from Victoria's Secret
Mint Necklace: Wet Seal
Black Sandals: Merona from Target
Handmade mint bow
